Obama Train Tour is good for mass transit
I am watching good old CNN and their coverage of Barack Obama's Train Tour - leading up to the historic inauguration. There's so much potential for change during his term as President.
I've wondered just how big of a priority the people will place on their own change. Obama has recently said that we've all got "skin in the game" (dealing specifically with getting through the financial crisis), but I feel that WE are even more critical to getting through some of the environmental problems today. Even though there are many voices in the choir, the consumer's voice truly represents the largest portion of the decisions made between products that qualify as "Green" and their inferior predecessors.
Getting back to the idea of mass transit, I am hoping that updating and improving mass transit is one of the bigger infrastructure projects that Obama kicks off.
It sickens me that there are so many detrimental aspects of modern life and culture that have become too convenient and automatic to modify. I am thinking about things like "each family needs to have two cars" or "we need to be able to drive 65 MPH" -- with little focus on goals like "we need to get at least 80 MPG with our next car purchase".
