Go Green - Be Veg, Save the Planet

I was watching some videos online today, and one video led to another -- which led me to find a few videos I've never seen before.  My passion for veganism (even though I am still mostly lacto-ovo vegetarian) is more than it ever was... the meat industry is the single biggest contributor to global warming.  Estimates are that between 20% and 50% of ALL global warming gasses are from the meat industry!!

Animal Agriculture: The Facts

This is a great video (only about 5 minutes) -- if you thought that you were environmentally friendly before, but you still eat meat.  WARNING: this video may cause you to change your ways.

Veganism - The Solution

This video runs about 8 minutes and is full of interesting facts -- way too many facts to list them here, but....

Raising animals to eat is the most inefficient manner imaginable.  We grow more food to feed the farm animals than we consume ourselves.... with most of our grains going to the animals.  Over half of the fresh water supply in America is used for the meat industry, It takes 12,000 gallons to produce a single pound of beef compared to 60 gallons to produce a pound of potatoes.  Farm animals produce 130 times as much waste (sewage) as people do - creating the Gulf dead zone.  Half of the world's fish are fed to livestock...  and about 7 more minutes of facts.

What can I do?

Become vegetarian or vegan.  If this is too much for you, DECREASE your intake of meat.
